Volunteerism
CAAGRI does not require membership or subscription fees to access our facility, Technical Literacy Centers or our online databases. And because we don't, we do need volunteers to do lookups in their communities for other genealogists. Each registered user will be assigned a Unique ID and password. Each user will be required to volunteer to do lookups based upon geographic location. For example, if a researcher in Chicago needs a lookup in Atlanta and we have registered users in the Atlanta area, we expect the researchers in Atlanta to be able to help the researcher in Chicago and vice versa. It's that simple but it doesn't end there.
We need the help of the entire community including locally elected officials and the business community to volunteer to help with our Oral History Projects, to mentor a young person, to help with lawn maintenance for seniors or to identify historical sites of interest and importance to African American history.
It is vital to the continued growth and success of our culture to show our children what it truly means to "give back to the community". The responsibility of good stewardship for our future and our past rests squarely on our shoulders. It is incumbent upon each of us to do what we are able to reach back and pull forward those of us who are just getting by. Our children watch everything we do and hear every word that isn't spoken. They are an especially privileged and extremely intelligent class of people who, with the right information, can make a powerful impact on the lives of others for generations to come.
